For Schools

Occupational Therapy support for pupils and school communities

At My Therapy Services we work with families, schools and local authorities to provide tailored support for children and young people.

Our team has decades of combined experience across mainstream, specialist and alternative settings. We are trained in Sensory Integration and bring expertise in child development, motor coordination, sensory processing and functional life skills. From our base in Nottingham we travel throughout the Midlands and can also offer remote consultations.

How we help pupils access learning

School-based OT is about enabling students to access their education and participate fully in school life. Our therapists focus on developing the skills needed for daily school routines and identify barriers to participation.

The needs we most often support in schools include:

  • Sensory & emotional regulation – helping pupils manage sensory processing differences, anxiety around everyday activities, build confidence and participate socially.
  • Movement, posture & coordination – supporting gross and fine motor skills, mobility, postural control and motor planning.
  • Everyday independence – developing dressing, personal care, feeding, toileting and sleep routines, and promoting independence at home, school or college.
  • Learning & education participation – addressing handwriting difficulties, classroom access and attention, transitions and organisation, joining in with learning and daily routines.
  • Environment & equipment – advising on home and classroom assessments, classroom environment, seating and wheelchair positioning, and assistive technology.
  • Development & additional needs – supporting pupils with developmental delays, autism, ADHD, dyspraxia/DCD, and those requiring EHCP recommendations.
Services we offer to schools

We provide a comprehensive suite of school-focussed services. Our aim is to deliver clear, evidence-informed recommendations that support access, participation and independence.

  • Observations & assessments: in-class observation, school-based OT assessments and EHCP advice, with reports that meet Section F requirements.
  • Direct therapy & intervention programmes: sensory regulation plans, fine motor and handwriting groups, individual therapy sessions and programmes integrated into the curriculum.
  • Environmental & equipment advice: classroom adaptations, seating solutions and assistive technology to improve access and comfort.
  • Staff training & consultation: practical workshops on sensory processing, regulation strategies, handwriting support, attention and readiness to learn, creating inclusive classrooms and implementing sensory circuits.
  • Whole-school audits: sensory audits and environment reviews to evaluate how well the school environment supports diverse learners and to plan improvements.

We tailor our approach to each pupil’s strengths, creating practical strategies that can be embedded into the school day.
